fonulyn: This was inspired by the lovely prompt here. I don’t really know what to say about it, it’s more one of these ‘mood-drabbles’ than an actual fic. Yet, I figured it’d deserve its own entry :) I have more than a dozen drabble-ish ficlets (yay for a new term XD but it’s pretty descriptive) done so I figured I could begin posting them. Hopefully this isn't against the community rules, but I checked and I think it still goes :) I have a question for you.

The thing is, as some of you might've noticed, that the Die/Toshiya(/Toshiya/Die) fandom seems to be completely in a standstill. There only seems to be two or three active writers and readers, and the existing communities are more silent than an average graveyard. So we (we being me, seinen_no and daidetre) were discussing the matter and decided we would want to try revive the fandom a bit, to give it something like a nudge and to try activate people to share the love more.

We discussed different possibilities, and in the end we only came up with one thing we could do; creating a new community for the pairing. We would try to create a welcoming atmosphere and make people feel free to share every kind of thoughts and fanworks circling around Die and Toshiya. This is not an attempt to attack the existing communities or directed in any way against them. It is simply an attempt to show love, and to activate people to share this with us.

So now, I would ask you all to take a second of your time to vote in the poll :) If no one else than the three of us wants a new community, we will step back. But if there is interest coming from anyone of you, we will go ahead with our plan and proceed it. So every single vote counts, and would be much appreciated!

Summary: The Niikura’s and the Andou’s used to be the two biggest families in town, wealthy and respected to the point of practically ruling the business as they wished. Times have changed though, and thus the heads of the clans have decided to take the needed steps to join their families to restore their power. Single persons don’t have much to say about anything when the whole future of the families is in question, that much the eldest sons of the Niikura family and the Andou family have to come to notice.

fonulyn: I just came back to Finland yesterday, got to my parents’ place around midnight and got a few hours sleep before driving to my flat. So I am exhausted, and totally not at my sharpest XD Anyways, as promised, here is the next chappie of the more frustrating one of our unfinished stories XD They ARE making progress though, may I point out! So yeah. We are getting somewhere, slowly but steadily x) Do enjoy!

EDIT@08:16 UTC/GMT. Wow. That was ugly. I expected it to go for 30 minutes and have maybe 1 minute of broken connectivity. Instead it lasted over 4 hours and we had 10 minutes of downtime directly related to the load balancer upgrades and then another 5-10 minutes of downtime when our primary Pingback database server crashed and the secondary couldn't take over; which could have been indirectly caused by the network upgrade missing a self-VIP.

Anyways, we're up, we're working, the load balancers are barely breaking a sweat right now and I need some food and a shot of whiskey. I don't even *like* whiskey!!

On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.
